Kepler-6 and Its Giant Planet

Kepler-6 is a star 1910 light-years away with one known planet. The star is 3.8 billion years old and has a mass of 1.21 solar masses and a radius of 1.39 solar radii, both larger than the Sun's. Its temperature of 5650 K is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet Kepler-6 b was discovered by transit in 2009, when it passed in front of its star and caused a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips helped establish its orbital period. Kepler-6 b is Jupiter-like, meaning its radius exceeds four times Earth's. Its radius is 14.6 Earth radii and its mass is 212 Earth masses, both larger than Earth's. It completes an orbit every 3.23 days. Its mean density is 0.375 g/cm³, 0.068 times Earth's.
