Kepler-589 is a star located 2000 light-years away, and it hosts two known planets. The star is 4.47 billion years old and has a reported mass estimate of 0.88 solar masses, a reported radius estimate of 0.83 solar radii, and a temperature of 5300 K. Its mass and radius are smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler than the Sun's.
The two planets were both found by the transit method, which occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-589 c was discovered in 2021 and is classified as Earth-like, with a radius of 1.12 Earth radii and an orbital period of 3.52 days. Its radius is larger than Earth's. Kepler-589 b was discovered in 2016 and is classified as a Super-Earth, with a radius of 2.27 Earth radii and an orbital period of 16.5 days. Its radius is also larger than Earth's.
Among the listed planets, Kepler-589 c has the shortest year and the smallest radius by reported estimates, while Kepler-589 b has the longest year and the largest radius by reported estimates.
