Kepler-575 b: A Super-Earth in a Distant System

Kepler-575 is a star located 2790 light-years from Earth. It has one known planet. The host star is 3.98 billion years old, with a mass of 0.97 solar masses, a radius of 0.95 solar radii, and a temperature of 5710 K.

The planet, Kepler-575 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-575 b completes an orbit every 9.38 days and has a radius of 2.39 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its size class is Super-Earth, a category for planets reaching up to 2.5 times Earth's radius.
