Kepler-505 b: A Neptune-Like World Around a Small Cool Star

Kepler-505 is a star system 924 light-years away, and its host star is both smaller and less massive than the Sun. The star's reported mass estimate is 0.55 solar masses, its radius estimate is 0.53 solar radii, and its temperature is 3930 K. Its age is 3.16 billion years.

One planet is known to orbit this star. Kepler-505 b was discovered by the transit method in 2016, when the planet passed in front of its star and caused a small dip in observed brightness. Its radius estimate is 2.6 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. That size places it in the Neptune-like class, which includes planets up to four times Earth's radius. Kepler-505 b completes one orbit in 27.5 days.
