Kepler-493 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

Kepler-493 is a single-star system 5690 light-years away. The host star is 2 billion years old, with a mass of 1.36 solar masses and a radius of 1.54 solar radii. Its temperature is 6460 K, and its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, while its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's. One planet is known to orbit this star.

That planet is Kepler-493 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-493 b orbits its star every 3 days, and its radius of 15.1 Earth radii is larger than Earth's. That radius exceeds four times Earth's radius, placing the planet in the Jupiter-like size class.
