Kepler-479 b: A Super-Earth Orbiting a Cool Star

Kepler-479 is a star 1120 light-years away with one known planet. The host star is 4.27 billion years old and has a mass of 0.86 solar masses, a radius of 0.81 solar radii, and a temperature of 5250 K. Its mass and radius are both smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler.

The only known planet is Kepler-479 b, a Super-Earth discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-479 b has an orbital period of 12.5 days and a radius of 2.12 Earth radii, larger than Earth's radius. Its size class compares radius, not composition.
