Kepler-477 b: A Super-Earth Orbiting Its Host Star

Kepler-477 is a star with a mass of 0.87 solar masses and a radius of 0.79 solar radii. The star is 2.09 billion years old and has a temperature of 5240 K. One planet orbits this host: Kepler-477 b.

Kepler-477 b is classified as a Super-Earth, meaning its radius falls between 1.5 and 2.5 times that of Earth. Its measured radius is 2.07 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. The planet was discovered by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods.

Kepler-477 b completes one orbit every 11.1 days. The host star's reported mass and radius are each smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler than the Sun's. The system contains a companion star in addition to the host.
