Kepler-445: A Cool Red Dwarf and Its Three Small Worlds

Kepler-445 is an M4 star located 415 light-years away. Its spectral type indicates a small, cool red dwarf. The star has a mass of 0.43 solar masses and a radius of 0.42 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's corresponding values. It is also cooler than the Sun, with a temperature of 3370 K, and has an age of 6.61 billion years. Three planets are known to orbit this host.

All three planets were discovered by transit in 2015, and each has a radius larger than Earth's. Kepler-445 b is a Super-Earth with a radius of 1.58 Earth radii and an orbital period of 2.98 days, the shortest year among the listed planets. Kepler-445 c is Neptune-like, with a radius of 2.51 Earth radii and a period of 4.87 days, the second-shortest year among the listed planets. It also has the largest radius among the listed planets. Kepler-445 d is Earth-like, with a radius of 1.25 Earth radii and a period of 8.15 days, the longest year among the listed planets by reported estimates. Its radius is the smallest among the listed planets.
