Kepler-434 is a star located 3990 light-years away, and one planet has been found orbiting it. The host star is estimated to be 4 billion years old, with a mass of 1.2 solar masses and a radius of 1.38 solar radii. Its temperature is 5980 K. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.
The system's only known planet, Kepler-434 b, was discovered in 2015 by the transit method, which detects the small dip in a star's brightness when a planet passes in front of it from our viewpoint; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-434 b completes an orbit every 12.9 days. It is a Jupiter-like planet, a size class for worlds exceeding 4 times Earth's radius, and its radius of 12.7 Earth radii is larger than Earth's. Its mass is 909 Earth masses, larger than Earth's and roughly 2.86 times Jupiter's mass. Its mean density is 2.46 g/cm³, 0.447 times Earth's.
