Kepler-43 b: A Giant World in a Distant System

Kepler-43 is a star located 3280 light-years away. Its spectral type is G0 IV-V. The star has an age of 2.8 billion years, a mass of 1.32 solar masses, a radius of 1.42 solar radii, and a temperature of 6040 K. Its reported mass, radius, and temperature are all larger or hotter than the Sun's. One planet orbits this star.

That planet is Kepler-43 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered by transit in 2011. With a radius of 13.7 Earth radii, it is larger than Earth, and its radius places it well beyond the Jupiter-like threshold of four Earth radii. Its mass is 1030 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's and roughly 3.23 times Jupiter's mass. Kepler-43 b completes an orbit in 3.02 days. Its mean density is 2.22 g/cm³, which is 0.402 times Earth's.
