Kepler-422 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

Kepler-422 is a star 2360 light-years away with one known planet. The star has a mass of 1.15 solar masses and a radius of 1.24 solar radii, both larger than the Sun's, and a temperature of 5970 K, which is hotter than the Sun.

The planet, Kepler-422 b, was discovered by transit in 2014, when it passed in front of its star from our viewpoint and caused a small dip in observed brightness. It is classified as Jupiter-like, meaning its radius exceeds 4 times Earth's. Its radius is 12.9 Earth radii and its mass is 137 Earth masses, both larger than Earth's. That mass is well below a Jupiter mass, which is 317.8 Earth masses. Kepler-422 b orbits its star every 7.89 days, and its mean density is 0.352 g/cm³, 0.0638 times Earth's.
