Kepler-38 and Its Circumbinary Planet

Kepler-38 is a binary star system 3830 light-years away whose host star has one known planet. The host is a G4 V star, a G-type main-sequence dwarf, with an age of 10 billion years. Its mass is 0.941 solar masses, its radius is 1.75 solar radii, and its temperature is 5620 K. The star's reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's, its reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The system's planet is Kepler-38 b, a Jupiter-like planet discovered by transit in 2012. It is circumbinary, orbiting both stars of the binary system rather than one star alone. Kepler-38 b has an orbital period of 106 days and a radius of 4.3 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its mass is reported as an upper limit of 122 Earth masses.
