Kepler-275: A Distant Star With Three Transiting Worlds

Kepler-275 is a star located 6630 light-years away, and it hosts three known planets. The star is estimated to be 3.31 billion years old, with a reported mass of 1.16 solar masses and a radius of 1.28 solar radii. Its temperature is 6190 K. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are both larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's as well.

All three planets were discovered by transit in 2014. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods, which are the times the planets take to complete one orbit.

Kepler-275 b is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius. It has an orbital period of 10.3 days and a radius of 2.34 Earth radii, making it the smallest radius among the listed planets. Its reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's.

Kepler-275 c and Kepler-275 d are both Neptune-like, a size class that reaches 4 times Earth's radius. Kepler-275 c has an orbital period of 16.1 days and a radius of 3.38 Earth radii, the largest radius among the listed planets. Kepler-275 d has an orbital period of 35.7 days and a radius of 3.33 Earth radii, the second-smallest radius among the listed planets. Both planets' reported radius estimates are larger than Earth's. Among the listed planets, Kepler-275 b has the shortest year by reported estimates at 10.3 days, Kepler-275 c has the second-shortest at 16.1 days, and Kepler-275 d has the longest at 35.7 days.
