Kepler-229: A Distant Star With Three Known Worlds

Kepler-229 is a star located 2690 light-years away. It has an age of 4.9 billion years, a mass of 0.8 solar masses, a radius of 0.76 solar radii, and a temperature of 5010 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's. Three planets are known to orbit this host.

Kepler-229 b is a Super-Earth discovered by transit in 2014. It has an orbital period of 6.25 days and a radius of 2.2 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Among the listed planets, it has the shortest year and the smallest radius by reported estimates.

Kepler-229 c is a Jupiter-like planet discovered by transit in 2014. It has an orbital period of 16.1 days and a radius of 4.92 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Among the listed planets, it has the second-shortest year and the largest radius by reported estimates. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness.

Kepler-229 d is a Neptune-like planet discovered by transit in 2014. It has an orbital period of 41.2 days and a radius of 3.85 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Among the listed planets, it has the longest year and the second-smallest radius by reported estimates.

All three planets were found by the transit method, and each has a radius larger than Earth's.
