Kepler-216: A Distant Star With Two Known Worlds

Kepler-216 is a star 3870 light-years away with two known planets. The star is 3.55 billion years old and has a mass of 1.11 solar masses, a radius of 1.2 solar radii, and a temperature of 6140 K, making it more massive, larger, and hotter than the Sun.

Both planets were discovered in 2014 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-216 b is a Super-Earth with a radius of 2.35 Earth radii and an orbital period of 7.69 days, the shortest year among the listed planets. Kepler-216 c is Neptune-like, with a radius of 3.04 Earth radii - the largest among the listed planets - and an orbital period of 17.4 days, the longest year among them. Both planets are larger than Earth.
