Kepler-212 and Its Two Planets

Kepler-212 is a star 2240 light-years away with two planets orbiting it. The star is 5.5 billion years old and has a mass of 1.09 solar masses, a radius of 1.28 solar radii, and a temperature of 5870 K, making it more massive, larger, and hotter than the Sun.

Both planets were discovered by transit in 2014. The transit method detects a planet when it crosses in front of its star and causes a slight dip in brightness. Kepler-212 b is Earth-like with a radius of 1.09 Earth radii, and its orbital period is 16.3 days. Kepler-212 c is Neptune-like with a radius of 2.74 Earth radii and an orbital period of 31.8 days. Among the listed planets, Kepler-212 b has the shortest period and the smallest radius, while Kepler-212 c has the longest period and the largest radius.

The Earth-like class keeps a planet within 1.5 times Earth's radius, while the Neptune-like class reaches 4 times. Kepler-212 c's radius is larger than Earth's. The star's mass, radius, and temperature are all larger or hotter than the Sun's.
