Kepler-1998 b: A Sub-Earth Planet in a Distant System

Kepler-1998 is a star located 1110 light-years from Earth, with one known planet in orbit around it. The host star has a mass of 0.985 solar masses, a radius of 0.991 solar radii, and a temperature of 5580 K. Its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The system's only named planet is Kepler-1998 b, a Sub-Earth discovered by the transit method in 2023. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-1998 b completes an orbit every 3.03 days and has a radius of 0.6 Earth radii. Its reported radius estimate is smaller than Earth's, and as a Sub-Earth it belongs to a size class defined by having a radius smaller than Earth's.
