Kepler-1984 b: A Close-Orbiting Giant Around a Cool Dwarf

Kepler-1984 is a single-star system whose only known planet, Kepler-1984 b, was found by the transit method in 2023. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods.

The host star has a mass of 0.417 solar masses and a radius of 0.4 solar radii. Both its reported mass estimate and its reported radius estimate are smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature of 3610 K is cooler than the Sun's.

Kepler-1984 b is classified as Jupiter-like, a size class that exceeds 4 times Earth's radius. Its radius of 6.81 Earth radii is larger than Earth's. The planet completes an orbit in 1.99 days, and its reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's.
