Kepler-1899: A Cool, Compact Star With One Super-Earth

Kepler-1899 is a star 2320 light-years away with one known planet in orbit around it. The host star has a reported mass estimate of 0.76 solar masses and a reported radius estimate of 0.686 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's. Its reported temperature of 4730 K is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-1899 b, was discovered by transit in 2021. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness, and repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1899 b completes an orbit every 4.1 days. Its reported radius estimate of 1.55 Earth radii is larger than Earth's, placing it in the Super-Earth size class, which compares radius with Earth's and reaches up to 2.5 times Earth's radius.
