Kepler-1836 b: A Neptune-like World in a Distant System

Kepler-1836 is a star located 4800 light-years away, with a mass of 1.05 solar masses and a radius of 0.987 solar radii. Its reported temperature of 6120 K is hotter than the Sun's. One planet orbits this star.

That planet, Kepler-1836 b, is a Neptune-like world, a size classification that compares its radius with Earth's. It was discovered in 2021 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1836 b completes one orbit every 5.25 days and has a radius of 2.55 Earth radii, a reported estimate larger than Earth's.
