Kepler-1781 b: A Super-Earth in a Close Orbit

Kepler-1781 is a star located 3140 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star has a mass of 1.04 solar masses, a radius of 0.943 solar radii, and a temperature of 5550 K. Its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-1781 b, was discovered in 2021 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1781 b orbits its star every 4.89 days and has a radius of 2.38 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Its size places it in the Super-Earth class, which compares radius with Earth's and reaches up to 2.5 times Earth's radius.
