Kepler-1762: A Distant Star and Its Neptune-Like Planet

Kepler-1762 is a star located 5430 light-years away. It has a mass of 1.31 solar masses, a radius of 1.3 solar radii, and a temperature of 6620 K. These measurements describe the star itself: its reported mass estimate is larger than the Sun's, its reported radius estimate is larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is Kepler-1762 b, a Neptune-like world discovered by the transit method in 2021. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1762 b completes an orbit every 29.5 days. Its radius is 2.76 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. In size-class terms, a Neptune-like planet reaches four times Earth's radius, so Kepler-1762 b falls within that range.
