Kepler-1727: A Distant Star and Its Neptune-Like Planet

Kepler-1727 is a star located 2920 light-years from Earth. It has a mass of 0.91 solar masses, a radius of 0.889 solar radii, and a temperature of 5300 K. Its reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's, its reported radius estimate is smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's. One planet orbits this star.

That planet is Kepler-1727 b, a Neptune-like world discovered by the transit method in 2021. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1727 b has an orbital period of 9.03 days and a radius of 3.17 Earth radii. Its reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's.
