Kepler-1599 b: A Super-Earth in Transit

Kepler-1599 is a star located 4330 light-years away, and one planet has been found orbiting it. The host star is 4.27 billion years old and has a mass of 0.99 solar masses, a radius of 0.99 solar radii, and a temperature of 5770 K. Solar masses and radii compare stellar mass and radius with the Sun.

The planet, Kepler-1599 b, was discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-1599 b orbits its star every 122 days and has a radius of 1.62 Earth radii, which is larger than Earth's radius. A Super-Earth reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius, so the planet's size class reflects its radius rather than its composition.
