Kepler-1577 b: A Close-In Earth-Sized World

Kepler-1577 is a star in a single-star catalog system located 1660 light-years away, and one planet orbits it. The star is estimated to be 4.27 billion years old, with a reported mass estimate of 0.78 solar masses and a radius estimate of 0.74 solar radii, making both smaller than the Sun's corresponding values. Its reported temperature of 4860 K is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-1577 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1577 b has a radius estimate of 1.13 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. With an orbital period of 6.31 days, it completes one orbit in that time. Its Earth-like classification reflects its radius, which falls within 1.5 times Earth's radius, rather than its composition.
