Kepler-1406 and Its Earth-Like Planet

Kepler-1406 is a star located 1870 light-years away. It hosts one planet. The star is estimated to be 5.01 billion years old, with a mass of 1.05 solar masses and a radius of 1.12 solar radii. Its temperature is 5890 K. The star's reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is hotter than the Sun's.

The planet in this system is Kepler-1406 b, discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1406 b completes an orbit every 11.6 days and has a radius of 1.1 Earth radii. That radius places it in the Earth-like size class, which covers planets up to 1.5 times Earth's radius.
