Kepler-1382 and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-1382 is a star 2410 light-years away with one known planet in orbit. The host star is estimated to be 2.75 billion years old, with a mass of 1.36 solar masses and a radius of 1.72 solar radii. Its temperature is 6160 K, and its reported mass, radius, and temperature are all larger or hotter than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-1382 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1382 b completes an orbit every 16.4 days and has a radius of 1.88 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. It is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches up to 2.5 times Earth's radius.
