Kepler-1318 and Its Neptune-Like Planet

Kepler-1318 is a star located 1550 light-years from Earth. It has one known planet. The star is estimated to be 4.57 billion years old, with a mass of 0.73 solar masses and a radius of 0.7 solar radii. Its temperature is 4600 K, cooler than the Sun's, and both its reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's.

The planet Kepler-1318 b was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1318 b completes an orbit every 213 days. Its radius is 3.11 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. That radius places it in the Neptune-like size class, which extends to 4 times Earth's radius.
