Kepler-1286 and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-1286 is a star 4420 light-years away with one known planet in orbit. The host star is 4.17 billion years old and has a mass of 1 solar masses and a radius of 0.98 solar radii, with a temperature of 5750 K.

The planet, Kepler-1286 b, was discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-1286 b has an orbital period of 11.3 days and a radius of 2.15 Earth radii. Its reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's. A Super-Earth reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius, so the planet's radius places it in that size class.
