Kepler-1285 b: A Sub-Earth in a Distant System

Kepler-1285 is a star located 1380 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The host star is estimated to be 2.75 billion years old, with a mass of 1.2 solar masses and a radius of 1.28 solar radii. Its temperature is 6170 K. Each of these measurements is larger or hotter than the corresponding value for the Sun.

The system's only known planet is Kepler-1285 b, a Sub-Earth discovered by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-1285 b has a radius of 0.97 Earth radii, placing it just below Earth's size, and it completes one orbit every 14.8 days.
