Kepler-1204 b: A Neptune-Like World in a Distant System

Kepler-1204 is a star located 3830 light-years away. It has 1.03 solar masses, 1.03 solar radii, and a temperature of 5830 K. Its age is 4.27 billion years. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet is Kepler-1204 b, a Neptune-like planet discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-1204 b completes one orbit, its year, in 85.7 days. Its radius is 3.05 Earth radii, larger than Earth's radius. Planet size classes compare radius with Earth's, and a Neptune-like planet reaches 4 times Earth's radius.
