Kepler-1194 b: A Super-Earth in a Distant System

Kepler-1194 is a star located 2470 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is estimated to be 4.79 billion years old, with a mass of 0.94 solar masses and a radius of 0.92 solar radii. Its reported temperature is 5590 K.

The planet, Kepler-1194 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods, and this planet completes one orbit every 16.2 days. It is classified as a Super-Earth, a size class that reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius, and its radius is 1.51 Earth radii.
