Kepler-1185 and Its Earth-Like Planet

Kepler-1185 is a star located 1500 light-years from Earth. It has one known planet. The host star is 1.55 billion years old, with a mass of 0.96 solar masses and a radius of 0.87 solar radii, making it slightly smaller than the Sun in both mass and radius. Its temperature is 5620 K, cooler than the Sun's.

The planet Kepler-1185 b was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1185 b completes an orbit every 104 days. Its radius is 1.33 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. That radius places it within the Earth-like size class, which covers planets up to 1.5 times Earth's radius.
