Kepler-116 is a star 3120 light-years away with two known planets, both discovered by transit in 2014. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness, and repeated dips help establish orbital periods.
The host star is 3.31 billion years old, with a mass of 1.21 solar masses and a radius of 1.43 solar radii. Its temperature is 6190 K, hotter than the Sun's, and its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's.
Kepler-116 b is a Neptune-like planet with an orbital period of 5.97 days and a radius of 3.42 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Among the listed planets, it has the shortest year and the largest radius. Kepler-116 c is a Super-Earth with an orbital period of 13.1 days and a radius of 2.3 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Among the listed planets, it has the longest year and the smallest radius.
Size classes compare radius with Earth's: a Super-Earth reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius, while a Neptune-like planet reaches 4 times. Earth radii compare radius, not volume.
