Kepler-1115 and Its Super-Earth

Kepler-1115 is a star 3210 light-years away with one known planet. The host star is 1.12 billion years old and has a mass of 1.6 solar masses, a radius of 1.73 solar radii, and a temperature of 8480 K. Its reported mass, radius, and temperature are all larger or hotter than the Sun's.

The system's only named planet is Kepler-1115 b, a Super-Earth discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1115 b orbits every 23.6 days and has a radius of 1.7 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. Size classes compare radius with Earth's: a Super-Earth reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius.
