Kepler-1098 b: An Earth-Like World in a Distant System

Kepler-1098 is a star located 3420 light-years from Earth. It has a mass of 0.99 solar masses and a radius of 0.99 solar radii, making it very similar to the Sun in both respects. Its temperature is 5790 K, and its age is 3.98 billion years. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is Kepler-1098 b, an Earth-like world discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-1098 b has an orbital period of 2.54 days, so it completes one orbit in that time. Its radius is 1.3 Earth radii, and its reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's.
