Kepler-1004 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

Kepler-1004 is a star located 3760 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is 7.76 billion years old, has 1.11 solar masses, spans 3.39 solar radii, and has a temperature of 4970 K. Its radius is larger than the Sun's, while its temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet Kepler-1004 b was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passing in front of its star from our viewpoint causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1004 b completes an orbit in 5.29 days. With a radius of 6.28 Earth radii, it is larger than Earth and classed as Jupiter-like, a size category for planets exceeding 4 times Earth's radius. This size classification describes radius, not composition.
