Kepler-15 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

Kepler-15 is a star located 2410 light-years away. It has 1.02 solar masses, 0.992 solar radii, and a temperature of 5520 K, which is cooler than the Sun's. The star is 3.7 billion years old. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is Kepler-15 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered by transit in 2011. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. Kepler-15 b has a mass of 210 Earth masses, a radius of 10.8 Earth radii, and an orbital period of 4.94 days. Its radius and mass are both larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.928 g/cm³, 0.168 times Earth's.
