Kepler-1439 b: An Earth-Sized World Around a Small Cool Star

Kepler-1439 is a star 735 light-years away with one known planet in orbit around it. The host star has an age of 4.07 billion years. It is smaller than the Sun, with a mass of 0.46 solar masses and a radius of 0.43 solar radii, and it is cooler than the Sun at a temperature of 3580 K.

The single known planet, Kepler-1439 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, which detects the small dip in a star's brightness when a planet passes in front of it. The planet completes one orbit in 8.07 days. Its radius is 1.46 Earth radii, placing it in the Earth-like size class, since Earth-like planets stay within 1.5 times Earth's radius. This radius is larger than Earth's, though radius comparisons describe size rather than volume or composition.
