Kepler-1426 b: A Super-Earth in Transit

Kepler-1426 is a star 5540 light-years away with a mass of 1.02 solar masses and a radius of 1.02 solar radii. It is 4.07 billion years old and has a temperature of 5830 K. One planet orbits it.

That planet, Kepler-1426 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. The planet completes an orbit every 14.3 days and has a radius of 1.56 Earth radii. That radius places it in the Super-Earth size class, which reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius. Its reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's.
