Kepler-1391 b: A Super-Earth in a Distant System

Kepler-1391 is a star located 3390 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star itself is 5.5 billion years old, with a mass of 1.03 solar masses, a radius of 1.1 solar radii, and a temperature of 5840 K. Solar masses and radii compare stellar mass and radius with the Sun.

The planet orbiting this star is Kepler-1391 b, a Super-Earth discovered in 2016 by the transit method. During a transit, a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1391 b completes an orbit every 54.4 days. Its radius is 1.68 Earth radii, and its reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's. Planet size classes compare radius with Earth's, and a Super-Earth reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius.
