Kepler-1302 b: A Close-In Earth-Like World

Kepler-1302 is a star located 2070 light-years away, and it hosts one known planet. The star is estimated to be 4.68 billion years old, with a mass of 0.86 solar masses and a radius of 0.82 solar radii. Its temperature is 5240 K, cooler than the Sun's, and both its mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's.

The planet, Kepler-1302 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, which detects the small dip in a star's brightness when a planet passes in front of it. Kepler-1302 b has an orbital period of 8.84 days and a radius of 1.43 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. That radius places it within the Earth-like size class.
