Kepler-1206 b: A Super-Earth in a Distant System

Kepler-1206 is a star located 2490 light-years away, and it hosts exactly one known planet. The host star has a mass of 0.8 solar masses and a radius of 0.75 solar radii, both smaller than the Sun's corresponding values. Its temperature is 4880 K, which is cooler than the Sun's, and its age is 3.55 billion years.

The system's sole planet is Kepler-1206 b, a Super-Earth discovered by the transit method in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness; repeated dips help establish orbital periods. Kepler-1206 b completes an orbit in 1.22 days, and its radius is 1.64 Earth radii, larger than Earth's. This radius places it within the Super-Earth size class, which extends up to 2.5 times Earth's radius.
