Kepler-1197 b: An Earth-Like World in a Distant System

Kepler-1197 is a star located 1590 light-years from Earth, and one planet orbits it: Kepler-1197 b. The host star is estimated to be 2.69 billion years old, with a mass of 0.78 solar masses and a radius of 0.72 solar radii. Its temperature is 4710 K. The star's reported mass estimate is smaller than the Sun's, its radius estimate is smaller than the Sun's, and its temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

Kepler-1197 b was discovered in 2016 using the transit method. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness. The planet's orbital period is 2.03 days, the time it takes to complete one orbit. Its radius is 1.25 Earth radii, and its reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's.

Kepler-1197 b is classified as Earth-like, a size class that stays within 1.5 times Earth's radius.
