Kepler-1174 and Its Lone Known Planet

Kepler-1174 is a star 4590 light-years away with one known planet in orbit around it. The host star is 3.55 billion years old and has a mass of 1.04 solar masses and a radius of 1.04 solar radii. Its reported temperature of 5940 K is hotter than the Sun's.

The single listed planet, Kepler-1174 b, was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Repeated dips help establish orbital periods, and this planet's orbital period is 6.89 days. Kepler-1174 b is a Super-Earth - a size class that reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius - and its reported radius estimate of 1.59 Earth radii is larger than Earth's.
