Kepler-1149 and Its Earth-like Planet

Kepler-1149 is a star located 3970 light-years away. It is 3.98 billion years old, has 1.02 solar masses, and a radius of 1.01 solar radii. Its temperature is 5830 K. One planet is known to orbit this host.

That planet is Kepler-1149 b, an Earth-like planet discovered in 2016 by the transit method. Its orbital period is 3.73 days. Its radius is 1.44 Earth radii, larger than Earth's radius.

Because a transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness, repeated dips helped establish the planet's orbital period. Size classes compare radius with Earth's, so an Earth-like planet stays within 1.5 times Earth's radius.
