KELT-8 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

KELT-8 is a G2 V star 644 light-years away, a Sun-like, main-sequence dwarf. It is 5.4 billion years old, with a mass of 1.21 solar masses and a radius of 1.67 solar radii, both larger than the Sun's. Its temperature is 5750 K. One planet is known to orbit this star.

That planet, KELT-8 b, is a Jupiter-like world, meaning its radius exceeds four times Earth's. Its radius is 18.2 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 210 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's. Its mean density is 0.193 g/cm³, 0.035 times Earth's. KELT-8 b was discovered by transit, the dip in starlight caused when a planet crosses in front of its star from our viewpoint, and it orbits every 3.24 days. It was discovered in 2015.
