KELT-18 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

KELT-18 is a star 1050 light-years away with a spectral type of F4 V, a main-sequence star hotter than the Sun. Its reported temperature is 6670 K, and its reported mass and radius estimates are larger than the Sun's, at 1.52 solar masses and 1.91 solar radii. The star's age is 1.9 billion years. One planet orbits this host.

That planet is KELT-18 b, a Jupiter-like world discovered in 2017 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. Its radius is 17.6 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and its mass is 375 Earth masses, also larger than Earth's and roughly 1.18 times Jupiter's mass. KELT-18 b completes an orbit in 2.87 days. Its mean density is 0.379 g/cm³, 0.0688 times Earth's.
