K2-87 and Its Jupiter-Like Planet

K2-87 is a star 1600 light-years away with one known planet. The host star has a mass of 0.99 solar masses, a radius of 1.45 solar radii, and a temperature of 5580 K. Its radius is larger than the Sun's, while its temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

The planet K2-87 b is Jupiter-like, a size class for planets with radii exceeding 4 Earth radii. It was discovered in 2016 by the transit method, in which a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint and causes a small dip in observed brightness. K2-87 b has a radius of 7.6 Earth radii, larger than Earth's, and an orbital period of 9.73 days, the time it takes to complete one orbit.
