K2-62: A Cool Star With Two Super-Earths

K2-62 is a star 367 light-years away with two planets orbiting it, both discovered by transit in 2016. A transit occurs when a planet passes in front of its star from our viewpoint, causing a small dip in observed brightness, and repeated dips help establish orbital periods.

The host star has a mass of 0.67 solar masses, a radius of 0.696 solar radii, and a temperature of 4460 K. Its reported mass and radius estimates are smaller than the Sun's, and its reported temperature is cooler than the Sun's.

Both planets are Super-Earths, a size class that reaches 2.5 times Earth's radius. K2-62 b has a radius of 2.02 Earth radii and an orbital period of 6.67 days. K2-62 c has a radius of 1.99 Earth radii and an orbital period of 16.2 days. Each planet's reported radius estimate is larger than Earth's. Among the listed planets, K2-62 b has the shortest year by reported estimates, while K2-62 c has the longest. K2-62 b also has the largest radius by reported estimates, and K2-62 c has the smallest.
